I challenge myself to document anything interesting that I learn in the course of a month.

1. “Squillions”

A massive, unspecified number. I’m adopting it to describe my coffee habit.

2. Treadmills are dangerous

About three people die from treadmill-related accidents every year. This is less than the 34 annual incidents involving dogs, though.

3. The New York Stock Exchange rocks

In the last 50 years, the NYSE as a whole has outperformed the companies inside it (10.7% vs <7%). wut?

4. Bill Gates

Apparently, Bill Gates is still the fourth richest person in the world. We’re always talking about Elon and Bezos these days, but Bill has longevity in the game.

5. Don’t be a shark

The word “shark” was invented to describe evil people before it was used to name the animal.

6. Busywork is expensive

People doing bullsh*t jobs costs the United States an estimated $2.2 trillion annually. That’s enough money to buy the world’s most expensive yacht, History Supreme… 458 times.

7. Transatlantic internet cables

Not only are there 500 cables crossing the Atlantic Ocean to provide internet, they’re still being installed with methods used in the 1850s. One cable is fast enough to support 67,000 people streaming The Dark Knight in 4k at the same time.
